A classic thread for every gaming forum. Talk about your favourite playing point - of - view here... When playing Morrowind, which view do you prefer to use? The first person, or the third person view? I use the third person view only for sneaking (if i play a thief), to take cool screenshots of my last character and to see how my new armour or outfit looks; for the rest, i always prefer to switch to the first person view mode. I feel Morrowind definitely not designed to be played in third person, at least for my playing style: don't forget that it was thought as a PC game first, and the Personal Computer world was born as the home of first person view games... I would also think at what Todd Howard said describing Morrowind for the first time, "live another life in another world": i really couldn't imagine my character as another myself who lives another life in another world, playing in third person! This thread is in the Morrowind section, but even Oblivion players can share their opinions (... of course!).

I preffer first person for everything with the exceptions of viewing my character and character screenshots(cause Rogus is awesome)

The only time I go to first person is during a battle or when I want to take a closer look at something. This may sound strange, but I really can't get into the game when in first person. I think it's because I don't have any side vision and don't really feel as though I am "seeing" in the same way as I do in real life. Plus...I guess because I am an artist in my real life, I love eye candy. My character has fancy clothes, hairstyle and equipment and it seems silly for me to have so many mods that really dress up my character and then not be able to see her.

Welcome to my little (but i hope even nice) internet place, Ladymorningstar! I hope you will enjoy your stay here. I haven't used the 'Hello!' thread because it's quite old right now and probably there are members that don't know of its existance, ah ah ah... Nice post about my question, Lady; however, i would ask you, just curious: do you have a past of avid pen - and - paper RPGs player maybe?

Not "traditional pen and paper" role playing although for the past couple of years I have been a part of a number of role playing games in the Live Journal community.

How these role playing games works? They sounds like these forums / websites when members roleplays with posts and such... I prefer the set up on Live Journal rather than forums because it seems...I don't know...less "clunky"...but yes, people make "sock puppet" accounts with the name of their characters, start a post in the community journal and then the "comment thread" becomes interaction between two or more characters. Some groups are better than others. Some "scenes" don't look any different from normal community discussions. Others take the time to really describe the scene and how the character is reacting in each post so you can really get sucked into the story.

That's interesting, i would like to roleplay on the web one day, since i'm more a videogame - RPGs fanatic than a pure roleplayer... I need to try at least one time.
I was asking if you have roleplayed differently than only with videogaming, because i feel that people who comes from a pure roleplay experience could have a different approach to Morrowind's view options; is this correct for you?

Well, I know I like to see as much as possible - including my character - since with all the other RPGs I've taken part in involve having to visualize everything entirely...so yes, that could have something to do with it. A number of times I've given the first person view a try but it just seems so odd to me. As I mentioned, I have no side view plus the movement is so smooth...as though I'm gliding instead of walking. In fact, the first couple of times I played Morrowind I wasn't aware that there was a third person option and I got "motion sickness" from looking out through my character's eyes.

I usually play in first person, because I lack coordination while running in third person..

I like both, 1st person when moving about and talking to npc's and 3rd when in battles, though its not entirely realistic it looks better to me
