Inspired by Amlet... and by a thread that i saw in another forum, time ago.
While playing Morrowind and downloading (or maybe even creating) mods for it, do you care a lot about its original lore? Or do you like and respect it, but every kind of mod could interest you, so it's not really important if your proud knight walks along the roads of Vvanderfell wearing a pair of fancy black leather boots beetween a fight and another? Or do you are absolute purists, then everything that isn't regular bonemold / ebony / or glass can't interest your tastes in any way?
Note that i'm not talking about only clothing or armor mods... But also about houses, quest or even weapon mods who comes out to the original lore of Morrowind. Like them or not?
I will reveal my opinion after some of you will have revealed its one, eh eh eh...

Well, I don't make mods that would have any effect on lore, as I stick to houses, but if I did, I think I would try to remain as true as possible to the original lore and not muck it up too much. I mostly prefer mods that blend in seamlessly with the Morrowind Universe, though I have made some exceptions with clothing mods since I don't particularly like the base clothes in Morrowind. However, when I write stories, I try to stay true to the original lore, though I am not afraid to embellish on lore that is otherwise unstated. For example, AlienSlof and I wrote our own lore on Sotha Sil, most of it based on a previous RP story that Slof worked on a while ago. Since there is so little information on Sotha Sil, we had to make up our own. But even with minor NPCs, I often make up their lives based on how I think they would act given what I already know about Morrowind's lore. I wouldn't want them to act 'out of character' so to speak because that wouldn't remain true to the lore. Some people don't care, but I do.

First of all, even house modding is definitely related to the lore, because you can build a simple Hlaalu manor but also a discoteque if you want (and by the way, remember: house modding is always the best!). The point is how do you buid this discoteque. For example, some time ago i've installed and played "Vivec Floating Nightclub" (sorry, i don't remember the name of the author at the moment), which places a small discoteque just outside the Vivec's Foreign Quarter. I had to uninstall this mod since the too many lights and scripts inside it caused a bit of lack at my game, however i remember it really asd a "little jewel": excellent location, with this building floating on the water; some interesting new meshes and textures. But, especially, i liked it inside: no naked dancing girls, no latex clothes, anything of that. Simply a bunch of assorted NPCs who dances following the b - b - beat... That's all. Wow, that's fine for me! Note that i haven't anything against who designs latex clothes, and of course i do like naked girls! For me, everyone is free to do whatever he wants... To create a good texture is always much time consuming, then i have an absolute respect for the work of everyone. But i would to tell you a story. When i was at the University, one of our teachers ask us to draw a project for an exhibition (i've studied Fine Arts, and i'm essentially a set designer). Well, i choosed Mondrian, an abstract dutch painter that i really love, and then designed the rooms inspired to his drawings. To conclude the work, i've also painted part of my portfolio like his drawings. Looking at my work, my teacher said that i had been able to enter in communication with the artist: this made me really happy, of course (but not too arrogant... I am not this kind of person, if you know what i mean). This little story, just to tell you: do whatever you want, everything will be great if you put time and joy in doing it... But what i prefer are works done with the true intention to really enter in communication with the Elder Scrolls universe. I mean: do you want to create a naked merchant in Seyda Neen? Give her (or him, or both: depends on tastes!) a credible background story. Or give it something really special and unique, so every people can recognize that you really believe in this damned game and in its story. Like you, i love what AlienSlof did: most of her mods don't fits in the lore, but they are really excellent works and i feel that she really believe in what she create... Then that don't sounds only "fine" to me, that sounds really good. Of course, we can't pretend that every guy who open the Construction Set will make excellent mods: every person is different, and we have to remember that we aren't all skilled in the same way. But that don't change my opinion very much. Others? Or maybe do you want to continue the discussion? There are really many other things to say about that, but since i don't want to make an infinite post here... "I give the ball to you", like we say here in Italy. Hm, that probably sounds terrible in english, i bet. ;D

"Pass on the storyteller´s candle"... I do not like mods that break the very closely woven atmosphere of Morrowind which mainly concerns pieces of clothing in too intense, pure colours. After all, Morrowind is a mainly medieval setting with quite some fantasy and magic strewn in. This is also one problem I got with the excellent "Glory Road" mod: Some clothes are just too perfect. Otherwise this mod is completely enthralling.
Thus, I also dislike those uber weapons like the "Van Helsings Crossbow" mod etc...

when i first started playing i only wanted mods that held the morrowind atmosphere, and only DLed those mods, but now that i have beaten it a handful of time i need something other than the original content to keep me playing it
i hate to say thise but morrowind is starting to bore me, because its just the same thing ov er and over again, evertime i play through i do the same exact things, eventhough i try to do different stuff
for that reason i DL pretty much anything that looks like a good quality mod to "spice up" the game
that's my 2 cents

I don't try to preserve the tainted lore of the Morrowind game, but to make it as much as MK's original vision as possible....Red sky, dark, and rather colourless architecture, colourfull clothing on the inside while multiple layers of brownish cloth on the outside etc.
More on my opinion later when I actually have time to write the full thing

I really like lore, not for the sake of staying within the restrictions of the culture but for the depth that the history can bring to the actual story. To be honest MW is a bit dry in term of gameplay in that the quests are basically running around all over the place and doing errands. There is not much puzzles like adventure games, not much battle tactics like fps games and no emotion from the characters. However, even with the dry gameplay, its the lore that made me interested in the game. Things like what happened that resulted in the situation between Vivec and Dagoth Ur? What is the history of the Twin Lamps or the Morag Tong? How is the irony of being honorable on the surface but political underneath deteriorating the structure of the Redoran House? What exactly is Azura scheming by getting the Nerevarine to do her bidding?
Such things makes the story give depth and the characters have character. That is why I love reading the stories in the Imperial Library and trying to find out what happens as the ES world moves on. I probably will enjoy OB even if the gameplay and mods are lacking just because I want to know what happens to the main epic.
I tend to like RPG games by the lore, If it has a good story I really like the game. That is why I like MW AND Final Fantasy even if one is linear and the other is open structure as they both have very good lore.

I try to stick to the lore but I'm willing to bend with a few things. Mods that I won't use are those that add "modern clothing" to the game or anything else that detracts from the medievial style settings. Yes, I know the armor my character wears would not really protect her in battle but at the same time, this is a fantasy world...so that's one of the areas where I'm willing to "slightly bend" away from lore.
Another example of what I would do and what I would NOT do: I suppose using Princess Stomper's Royal Chargen mod pulls away from lore..although there is nothing to say that Helseth DOESN'T have illegitimate children somewhere. So I don't think I'm destroying lore too much by having Aeronwen as the daughter of Helseth's mistress....I would NOT however, have my character kill Helseth and set herself as Queen because that would go against what lore has already established.

Lore is what you make it, not everthing is known
Even the writers change things to fit their new story
I believe in sticking to the base story guideline's thier is no indication that nirn has any rifles, spaceships, designer cloths or pink and orange buildings
And though some of it (if not most) look fantastic and make for a fun gameplay its out of bounds
Enjoy Bob
