TESFiles, by MentalElf, is an excellent freeware software that helps modders and players in packing or uninstalling Morrowind mods. It's a must - have, download it by clicking at the link provided below. Then, install it wherever you want.
Then launch it, and have a look at the user interface.
- TESFiles user windows -
- The "Locate your Morrowind .ini" window:
That small window will report the right location of your Morrowind .ini file. Since the .ini contains the list of all the installed mods, TESFiles can't work if you don't tell it where your .ini is placed. Click on the "Find" button, browse your folders and find it. Done?
- The "Select mod to export (or exclude)" window:
This is a bigger window and will list all your current mods, when TESFiles will know where yor Morrowind .ini file is located.
- The main TESFiles window:
This is the biggest window, and shows in real time all the operations, eventually listing missed files as well as the files that the software find correctly.
- How to pack a mod with TESFiles -
In order to avoid wrong installation issues, every Morrowind plug - in should packed in the right way, respecting the correct paths. That is useful for "mere" .esps as well as big mods containing a lot of new meshes, textures, icons etc. How can you pack your mod?
1) Browse the "Select mod to export (or exclude) window 'til you find your .esp or .esm file;
2) Put a tick by left - click on it: that will mark it with a big "X";
Example Picture #1
3) Put a tick left to the "Move (uninstall) files" field that you see at the bottom f the interface;
4) Put another tick left to the "Verbose Log (Extra debug info)" field; eventually, you can open your notepad by clicking on the proper button on the right...
Example Picture #2
5) Click the "Export" button: since your .esp or .esm is hard linked to every meshes and texture used while modding, TESFiles will now look inside it and show you all the uninstallingoperations in real time, in the main window.
6) Done! You will find your mod packed, read to be zipped, in the TESFiles installation folder... with two extra .txt files attached that contains useful informations about the icons, meshes and textures contained in your pack. Don't forget to zip those .txt togheter with your mod, so the players can have a look at them.
Example Picture #3
To pack a simplier mod made of only one little .esp, or to uninstall a mod that you don't want to play anymore, simply do the same things.
If you want to uninstall a mod, don't forget to check if it shares files with other running plug - ins, or your game will complaint about various missed files the next time you'll launch it!!!
